This process creates impressions of the design while leaving recessed areas, also known as a pools, which are filled with colors using powdered enamel glass-like mixture and high fired at very high temperatures. After this process is complete, the surface is ground and polished to provide a smooth finish with a dazzling shine. The metal, usually brass or copper, can be plated in gold, silver, nickel, etc.
